Virtual workshop: Activity-based learning, problem-based learning and flipped classroom

This workshop will be held in English.

Please note - the contents of this workshop were changed since we moved it into a digital setting. Message from the workshop leader Tore Nilsson:

The workshop Activity-based learning in Active learning classrooms on 1 April was supposed to take place in the ALC room at Frescati but will now be offered as an online workshop. The general ideas of active student learning will still be pursued, but in a digital environment and with a slightly different focus. ALC is not just a physical room but a pedagogical concept building on a sequence of instructional interventions that aim to activate students in various ways.

In addition to the theoretical underpinnings of ALC I will address two other approaches, flipped classroom and problem-based teaching, both of which can be seen as key instructional components in active learning. I will do this against the backdrop of the Community of Inquiry framework.

Towards the end of this week I will distribute a linked recording where I introduce the theoretical concepts, thus hopefully paving the way for more interaction during the workshop. The workshop itself will include joint discussions as well as group-based work on a general scenario which you can apply to your own discipline and teaching. For this reason, it is good if you have access to a syllabus/description of a course that you are currently teaching or one that you are going to teach.
